Hi, I'm Vanessa and I am passionate about children's literacy.
I am also an executive leader, literacy advocate, mother, grandmother, and a literacy training certified educator who is passionate about helping children unlock their giftedness through the power of reading.
My journey started as a little girl navigating a tough home life, where books became my escape and the library, my sanctuary.
Those early experiences sparked my lifelong mission: to ensure every child (especially in underserved communities), is equipped to read. I’ve volunteered in schools and literacy programs, created community tutoring initiatives, and earned certifications in early literacy strategies. I taught my own children and grandchildren to read before they started school—giving them a foundation which is helping them to excel.
But here’s the thing: I know the struggles parents face when their child starts falling behind in reading. The guilt. The overwhelm. The endless search for solutions (that usually come with a hefty price tag). That’s why I created Read 2 Exceed for every pocket and parent.

Collapsible content
Will this really help my child learn letter sounds?
Absolutely. "Sound Ready" is designed to help children master letter sounds using science-backed methods that are proven to work. The lessons are simple, focused, and broken into 5 - 10 minute segments to keep your child’s attention and make progress day by day. Plus, the culturally representative characters and content help inspire children to connect.
What if I don’t have much time to teach my child?
The lessons are designed by a mother specifically for busy parents. They are only 5-15 minutes each, making it easy to fit them into your busy schedule. You also have flexible options—teach your child yourself based on the content, let them learn directly from the video lessons, or use a combination of both. You choose what works best for your family.
I’m not a teacher—how will I know I’m doing it right?
You do not have to be a teacher. I’ve made everything simple and easy to follow, even if you’ve never taught reading before. I taught my children with the best and most important expertise and experience someone can have to teach a child - being a mother. Plus, you’ll have access to a supportive community of parents and experts to cheer you on and answer questions along the way.
How do I know this program is right for my child?
This program is perfect for children just starting to learn letter sounds or who need a stronger foundation to read well. The lessons are designed to build confidence and skills in a way that’s fun and effective. Every child can benefit from learning with culturally relevant content that reflects their heritage and cultural experiences.
How long will it take to see results?
Many parents notice improvements within days to the first few weeks. By sticking to the lesson plans, your child can build a strong foundation in letter sounds and begin developing the vocabulary and comprehension skills they need to become confident readers. Because every case is unique I cannot make a 100% guarantee, however, most parents (and teachers) begin seeing results using these explicitly taught methods, almost immediately.
My child already knows some letter sounds— will this still be helpful?
Yes. This program isn’t just about learning sounds; it also builds oral language, vocabulary, and comprehension skills. It’s a verbal language foundation that prepares your child to read fluently and confidently. This is critically important because mastering letter sounds, and comfort and confidence with oral language is the solid foundation a child needs to become an exceptional reader.
How is this program different from other reading programs?
🎧 Sound Ready✔️ is culturally relevant, making it especially impactful for children who need to see themselves reflected in the images and content. The lessons are short, science-backed, and designed to fit into busy schedules. And unlike many other programs, you’ll have access to a supportive community and flexible options for your child to build this foundation.
What if my child gets stuck or I don’t know how to help them?
I want you to know that you’re not alone. With this program, you’ll be part of a community of parents and experts who are ready to support you every step of the way. Whether it’s advice, encouragement, or resources, we’ve got you.
