Kindergarten Readiness Matters

Why Early Preparation Is Important

When Children Haven't Learned The Basics, Everything Else Can Become Harder.

  • Reading affects nearly every part of a child’s education: math, science, social studies, and expressing ideas.
  • A child who has not learned to read well may begin to lose confidence and internalize shame (or acting out behaviors).
  • Starting early gives your child time to learn according to their pace and gain rooted confidence that lasts throughout their learning journey.
Confidence Comes With Built Competence

Reading Proficiency Gives Your Child Access

✓
Learning to read requires children to develop specific skills taught in a systematic way. Continual practice builds competence. Competence is the ground upon which confidence stands.
✓
Strong reading depends on building strong early skills. Skip the foundation and weaknesses will probably surface soon afterwards.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions Parents Often Ask

It is natural to have questions about your child’s readiness and the best way to support learning at home. We are here to help answer your questions.

01 How can I tell whether my child is ready?

Kindergarten readiness involves more than knowing the alphabet, shapes, or numbers. Children benefit from having an overall strong language foundation.

This includes being able to hold a conversation, having strong listening skills, knowing basic letter sounds, knowing how to spell their name, recognizing sounds within words, and expressing their thoughts clearly.

02 What if my child’s school says everything is fine, but I am still concerned?

Once a child starts reading, parents sometimes notice hesitation, guessing, or frustration. These can be early signs that reading is becoming more difficult than it should be.

This is why building a strong early foundation is so important—so your child can begin with confidence and continue developing the skills needed to stay on track.

03 What if I don’t know how to teach reading?

You do not have to know how to teach your child to read.

We simply need your support in making sure your child attends the live sessions and completes the associated written assignments. Read 2 Exceed provides the lessons, activities, core learning materials, and practice.

04 Can my child use Read 2 Exceed along with school?

Absolutely! Parents frequently tell us how well their children are doing in school because of the additional support they receive through Read 2 Exceed.

Our programs are designed to complement classroom instruction by giving children additional explanation, focused practice, and opportunities to review and strengthen important skills.

05 What if my child already reads some words?

Recognizing some words does not always mean a child can read independently.

Read 2 Exceed helps determine the appropriate starting point and strengthens the skills your child needs to develop solid reading comprehension, writing, listening, and speaking skills.

We are here for you and your child. You do not have to figure it out alone.
